SOLO EXHIBITION by AMANDA DAVIDSON

We are delighted to host a solo exhibition by Amanda from Dragonfly Art Studio in Crossgar.

When? 20th May to 3rd June 2024

Amanda says “I began drawing and painting animals in 2019. Starting in pencil, pastels, and watercolors and now have moved on to painting with my favorite medium oil on canvas. I drew my inspiration from spending 15 years in the rural landscape and culture in the Dakotas which included ranching, rodeo, barrel racing, and mountain trail riding. Now I have returned home to the Insh coastal scene of track racing, trekking the Mournes, or riding the beaches. Two differing cultures honoring gods most beautiful creations. Whether it is horses or other animals, I strive to capture their expressive nature and grace”

Dear Friends of Sir Hans Sloane Centre,

Dear Friends of Sir Hans Sloane Centre,

We are glad to be back with our Newsletter after a year of silence! So much has happened that left me without time to communicate all the wonderful activities and events that have taken place .  Please do read on to find out about our successes and to learn of the programme for this Autumn.   We are open to your suggestions on what you would like to be involved in but most of all we need your support in attending and booking into this current set of events, especially as we set up as a community cinema.  So if films are of interest to you spread the word and come along to enjoy being part of the community.  We need more volunteers so that films can be shown weekly.   We need more volunteer staff members so that we can be open more often or if you can help as a backup then please do get in touch. 07896254153

=============================================================================

It’s time to talk about the women of Ireland – their bravery and brilliance!
Let’s look at what they achieved – despite men looking over their shoulders!

WHAT? Three talks by Clive Scoular., followed by much chat & discussion!

Talk 1 – Sarah Purser (1848 – 1943)
Never heard of Sarah? Attend and you will undoubtedly agree with me that her contribution to life in Ireland was outstanding!

Talk 2 – Saidie Patterson (1906 – 1985)
Sadie made sure that hard-working women received equal pay, despite opposition from men.
Talk 3 – Augusta Gregory (1852 – 1932)
George Bernard Shaw described Lady Augusta Gregory as “the greatest living Irishwoman”. She co-founded the Abbey Theatre with W.B. Yeats and gave Ireland its own national theatre.
After Talk 3 (8pm): QUIZ
– one like you’ve never had before when you will have the chance to look back on these ladies and answer questions about them!

WHEN? Wednesday, 1st, 8th, 15th May 2024.    3-4pm, and repeated, 7-8pm.

COST? A donation of £5 per class.
