Vision:
To improve the educational, economic and recreational opportunities within and around Killyleagh for the prosperity of the village and well-being of the community.
Mission
To establish a Centre as an innovative and neutral community space, for the promotion and celebration of our shared culture and heritage, providing new educational experiences based on STEM and local history, to enhance employment opportunity and draw investment to the area. A Centre that acts as a hub for visitors, complimenting the existing cultural, historical and environmental assets of the area. Facilitating greater awareness of what Killyleagh has to offer to the community and visitors alike. Overall generating prosperity and enhancing the sense of community and well -being.
In pursuance of its Vision and Mission, Sir Hans Sloane Centre has produced an outline set of aims upon which its Strategic Plan to establish its key objectives has been established. These aims and objectives are summarised below: –
Visionary Aims
- To generate an infrastructure that will bring renewed prosperity, opportunity and ambition for the village community.
- To create employment in the running of the centre and support neighbouring businesses.
- To increase the number of visitors to the village and enrich their experience.
- To boost recreational pursuit opportunity to help improve the wellbeing of the whole village population and to increase visitor time and spend in Killyleagh.
- To celebrate and make known the life and work of Sir Hans Sloane.
- To share his great contribution to London and to science with the people of his birthplace and boyhood home.
- To promote education in local history, science and the environment for school children and the youth in the area and visitors.
Strategic Aims
- To provide a professional, safe environment for the delivery of Educational Resources and promotion of the natural and historic environment within the community of Killyleagh and surrounding district.
- Create a community education space and cultural hub for the whole community in Killyleagh and indeed the whole of Northern Ireland.
- To become a self-sustaining enterprise as a charity that provides long-term employment for its members with the potential to enable a wider community of spin off business.
- To provide integrated employment/training opportunities for unemployed young people, apprentices or interns.
- To secure capital resources to develop the project
- To apply future surpluses to the expansion of the Charity including provision of other services in accordance with the powers of the charity.
- To attract investment to Killyleagh by drawing interest to the empty business premises adjacent to the Centre.
Organisation Strategic Priorities
Strategic Priority 1 – Sir Hans Sloane Education and Visitor Centre aims to achieve and maintain the highest standards of governance and accountability.
It aims to ensure that the structures and processes for decision making and accountability and the controls and behaviours throughout the organisation are of the highest standard, open and transparent with appropriate safeguards.
Strategic Priority 2 – The Centre aims to generate secure and sustainable income streams by way of a pro-active trading business for

- Service development
- Future capital investment
Strategic Priority 3 – The Centre aims to develop a marketing and communication strategy to promote their aims and objectives as well as their activities to a wide audience leading to increased awareness of the services the project will offer leading to increased revenues for the social enterprise.
Strategic Priority 4 – The Centre aims to recruit, develop and sustain a competent, loyal and highly motivated workforce drawn from a wide range of people groups who face barriers to employment in the area. The desire is to build a workplace epitomised by a team spirit and a real sense of ownership by all employees and the community.
